A man’s heart plans his course, but the LORD directs his steps.
Proverbs 16:9 · WEBPlanning is part of responsible stewardship. We consider the resources available to us, prepare for our responsibilities and make decisions about the future. Proverbs acknowledges that the human heart plans a course, while reminding us that the Lord directs our steps.
We do not have to choose between thoughtful preparation and dependence on God. We can make plans while remaining surrendered to His leadership. The difference is whether the plan serves obedience or becomes something we refuse to reconsider.
When circumstances change, bring the plan before Him again. An adjustment does not automatically mean your earlier effort was wasted. It may reveal something that needs correction, or it may require wisdom for conditions you could not have anticipated. God is able to lead us through either situation.
Today, identify a plan you have been holding tightly. Offer it to the Father honestly, including the hopes attached to it. Ask Him to direct your next step and give you willingness to respond. Planning with an open hand allows us to work diligently without making our own understanding the final authority over the journey.
I submit my plans, desires and decisions to the leadership of the Holy Spirit. I prepare diligently and remain willing to be redirected. My steps are the Lord’s to direct, and I receive grace to respond when His instruction changes my course.
Father, I bring You the plans I have made and the hopes attached to them. Give me wisdom to prepare well and humility to remain teachable. Where correction or adjustment is needed, help me respond willingly. Direct my steps so that my planning serves Your purpose rather than resists Your leadership.
