When my foot slips
When I said, “My foot is slipping!” Your loving kindness, LORD, held me up.
Psalm 94:18 · WEBA loss of footing rarely begins with a dramatic fall. It begins with a subtle shift in attention, desire or conviction. The psalmist recognized that movement and called it honestly. In that vulnerable moment, he discovered the loving kindness of God already holding him up.
We often notice the slide before anyone else does: a thought pattern returning, a boundary weakening or discouragement making old choices appear comforting. That moment is not a reason for shame. It is an invitation to reach for help early.
God’s loving kindness interrupts the slide. His Word awakens conviction, His Spirit exposes the weakening place and His mercy creates room for a different response. The first sign of slipping becomes a summons to return, not a prediction of defeat.
Pay attention today to the places where your footing feels uncertain. Strengthen what has weakened and return your attention to God. His mercy meets us before the fall as surely as it meets us after one, and His loving kindness is strong enough to steady our obedience.
When my foot begins to slip, God’s loving kindness holds me up. I recognize warning signs, receive support and choose the path of freedom.
Father, help me notice where my footing has become uncertain. Remove shame that keeps me silent, and give me wisdom to respond early. Use Your Word, healthy boundaries and trustworthy people to steady me. Thank You that Your loving kindness holds me up. Keep my attention anchored in Your truth and my heart quick to obey.
Amen.
