A new creation
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17 · WEBWe often describe ourselves from the evidence of our history. Old labels survive long after God has begun something new. In Christ, identity starts with God’s creative work rather than our former condition. The new life is already ours, and the Holy Spirit teaches us to live in agreement with it.
New life does not mean every habit disappears immediately or every consequence is removed. It means the old life no longer owns us. The Holy Spirit forms new desires, teaches new responses and brings our daily conduct into agreement with who we have become in Christ.
This process requires patience without passivity. We do not condemn ourselves for needing growth, and we do not excuse what God is asking us to change. Grace gives us room to mature and power to obey.
Notice the language you use about yourself. If you continually speak as though bondage is your permanent identity, bring those words under God’s truth. You have a history, but you also have a new name and a new direction in Christ.
I am a new creation in Christ. My history does not own me, and the Holy Spirit is bringing my choices into agreement with my new life.
Father, thank You for making me new in Christ. Renew the way I see and speak about myself. Give me patience with the work of growth and courage to obey what You are showing me. Let my daily life increasingly reflect the new creation You have made.
Amen.
